Different types of surgeons specialized in cosmetic surgery are generally refer to as plastic surgeons. Plastic surgeons specialize in body replacement, repair, and reconstruction of defects. Plastic surgeons also focus on aesthetic surgery of the body. Some of these aesthetic surgery include: Breast Implants, Breast Reduction, Breast Lift, Breast Augmentation, Liposuction, RhinoPlasty, Mommy Makeover, Tummy Tuck, Botox, Brazilian Butt Lift, Eyelid Surgery, and Invisalign.
There are 2 other different types of surgeons in plastic surgery who required specialty certifications:
- Surgery of the Hand
This type of surgeons focuses on the investigation and treatment of patients with diseases, injuries, or abnormalities affecting the upper extremities. This specialty includes the performance of microvascular surgery, which is necessary for reattachment of amputated fingers or limbs. All hand surgeons are certified in plastic surgery and then complete additional training and testing in hand surgery.
- Plastic Surgery within the Head and Neck
This type of surgeons is a plastic surgeon with additional training in cosmetic and reconstructive procedures within the head, face, and neck. This area includes skin, head and neck oncology and reconstruction, management of maxillofacial trauma, soft tissue repair, and neural surgery. One example of this type of surgery is Maxillofacial surgery. It specializes in treating jaws and face region. In United States, Canada and Australia, it is a recognized specialty of dentistry; in others, such as the UK and most of Europe, it is recognized as both a specialty of medicine and dentistry and a dual degree in medicine and dentistry is compulsory.
